10. Holkham Beach, Norfolk


The beach at Holkham is one of the most unspoilt and beautiful stretches of sand in the country. Behind the shoreline lies a semi-circular basin, which, at very high tides, rapidly fills to form a spectacular shallow lagoon.

12. Whitesands Beach, Pembrokeshire


Overlooked by the imposing craggy hill of Carn Llidi, this wide expanse of fine white sand curves north towards the remote rocky headland of St Davids Head.

The best surfing beaches: The surf ‘break’ is at the northern end and on busy days there are canoeists, surfers and bodyboarders competing for the best waves.





Uig Beach lies on the south western side of the Isle of Lewis and is one of the largest beach areas. The landscape here is hillier, and more dramatic than elsewhere on Lewis, with its combination of myriad islets, wild cliff scenery and patches of pristine golden sand.
